Frequently Asked Questions

What is FileScope?

FileScope is a desktop search application for Windows that uses AI to search your files by content and meaning, not just filenames. It reads inside PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and images (via OCR), and lets you find files using natural language queries. Everything runs locally on your computer.

How much does FileScope cost?

$19, one-time payment. No subscription. You get lifetime access to the app, all future updates, and can use it on up to 3 devices.

Is there a free trial?

There is no free trial at this time. FileScope is a one-time purchase with no recurring fees.

Does FileScope send my files to the cloud?

No. FileScope runs entirely on your computer. Your files are never uploaded anywhere. The AI model runs locally, the search index is stored locally, and no data leaves your machine.

What file types does FileScope support?

FileScope can search inside:

  • Documents: PDF, Word (.docx)
  • Spreadsheets: Excel (.xlsx)
  • Text files: .txt, .md, .csv, .json, and code files
  • Images: .png, .jpg (text extracted via OCR)

It can also search by filename across all file types on your system.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 or Windows 11. Any modern hardware works. No special GPU or NPU required. The AI model runs on your CPU.

How does the AI search work?

FileScope uses a local AI model to convert your files and search queries into vectors that capture meaning. When you search for "quarterly revenue report", it finds files about financial results even if those exact words aren't in the filename or content. This all happens on your computer without any internet connection.

How do I use FileScope?

Press Ctrl+Space from anywhere on your desktop. A search bar appears. Type what you're looking for and results show up instantly. You can also open the full app to browse your indexed files.

Can I use FileScope on multiple computers?

Yes. Each license key works on up to 3 devices.

Does FileScope work offline?

Yes, completely. The AI model, search index, and all processing happen locally. You do not need an internet connection after installation.

How is FileScope different from Windows Search?

Windows Search primarily matches filenames and has limited content search. FileScope reads inside your documents, uses OCR to extract text from images, and uses AI to understand the meaning of your query. It also maintains its own index, so it works reliably even when Windows Search breaks.

Does FileScope replace Windows Search?

FileScope runs alongside Windows Search. It does not modify or disable Windows Search. You can use both.

How long does indexing take?

Initial indexing depends on how many files you have. A typical Documents folder with a few hundred files indexes in under a minute. After the initial scan, FileScope monitors your folders and indexes new or changed files automatically in the background.

Can I launch apps with FileScope?

Yes. Press Ctrl+Space, type the name of any installed app, and press Enter to launch it. Faster than the Start Menu.
